Panthers assault area tournament foes

Jemison on Tuesday withstood a spirited effort from Calera to claim the Class 4A, Area 7 title in four games, 27-25, 25-12, 22-25, 25-11.
Both teams in the championship game will advance, but the location of their regional games on Saturday won’t be known until today.
Calera (8-12) defeated Bibb County High in the first match, and Jemison defeated Holt (25-10, 25-10, 25-19) in the second match.
Jemison’s Kasi Wells was named the tournament Most Valuable Player. Wells recorded 23 assists, 18 kills and eight aces in two matches.
Tabatha Cork (25 digs, 18 kills and eight aces), Christie Hoffmeyer (14 digs, 11 kills and five aces) and Codi Mims (17 kills and two blocks) were also named to the all-tournament team for the Panthers (22-9).
