Isabella on Saturday won its second consecutive Chilton County Volleyball Tournament—this time on its home court—but Thorsby made the Mustangs work for it.
IHS won the championship match, 2-1 (25-22, 18-25, 19-17), marking the first time the program has won two consecutive county titles and the first time it has won one in its own gymnasium.
“Thorsby came ready to play,” Isabella coach Glen Graham said. “That’s the best I’ve seen them play. We finally regrouped well enough to come back and win it. It was a really good atmosphere for the championship game.”
Allison Mims was the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. She recorded 19 digs in two matches combined.
“Without her passing, we don’t win,” Graham said.
Heather Posey had 19 assists for Isabella, Savannah Kissel had 13 kills and six aces, Landy Griffith had 16 kills, Hayden Compton had nine kills and three blocks, and Khadijah Craig had 11 kills and three blocks.
Isabella advanced to the championship match with a 2-0 (25-15, 25-21) win over Chilton County.
Thorsby defeated Jemison, 2-0 (25-17, 25-16), in the other first-round match.
