State Rep. Kurt Wallace presented a check for $4,083.12 to the city of Jemison during the Jemison City Council meeting on Sept. 19.

Wallace told the council he divided his discretionary monies from the Legislature among Jemison, Thorsby, Maplesville and Wilton.

“This isn’t my money; it’s your money,” he told council members. “I’m simply an administrative arm. I know how hard it is to do what you do with lack of funds.”

In new business, the council moved to introduce an ordinance that states that the city will collect limbs, leaves and shrub debris from curbs in residential areas from the 25^th of each month to the first day of the next month.

The city will pick up items free of charge during these five- to six-day periods. If residents wish to have the city pick up items on days other than these, they must call the city and will be charged for the pick-up.

In recognition of visitors, Jemison resident Rex Bittle presented a plan for reconstructing the city’s website.

“It’s difficult to maintain, it’s uninformative and it’s built incorrectly,” Bittle said of the current website. “(We need) something that is fresh and useful.”

Bittle said the site will feature a new seal and logo for the city, and in time, residents may have the option of paying municipal court bills online.

“We’re in the information age, and Jemison’s web page is totally out of focus,” Mayor Eddie Reed said. “It needs to be redone.”

Another visitor at Monday’s meeting was Deanna Crist, executive director of Care Net Pregnancy Resource Center, who thanked the council for allowing Care Net to hold its seventh annual fundraising banquet at the Jemison Municipal Complex on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.

In old business, Reed noted that city workers had fulfilled a request to begin cleaning street curbs in Jemison.
