An inmate who was unintentionally released from the Shelby County Jail is back in custody after Alabaster Police arrested the man in the 100 block of 4th Place NE.

Kenneth Ray Hudson of Alabaster was taken into custody without incident at 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office released Hudson at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday after an error was made in the processing of his court documents following an appearance in court.

The SCSO notified the Alabaster Police upon discovering the error at 5 p.m., and a search immediately ensued.

Hudson has been returned to the Shelby County Correctional Facility where he is being held on his original charges of probation violation for unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle and probation violation on possession of a forged instrument.

“We strive to provide professional law enforcement services to the citizens of Shelby County, and appropriate corrective action will be taken to help prevent this situation from recurring” said Sheriff Chris Curry in a release.

The SCSO is continuing to investigate the incident to determine the cause of Hudson’s release.
