Annual bids for things like tires, concrete, fuel and garbage dumpsters were approved at Monday’s Clanton City Council meeting.

The following low bids were approved:

•Bo-Mart Tire and Service had the only bid for city tires. The quoted price of $27,927 covered one tire of every vehicle in the city’s fleet, not including the police department.

•Shelby Concrete, Inc. had the only bid for concrete at $74 per yard and $79 per yard with fibers.

•W.H. Thomas Oil Co., Inc. had the only bid for diesel fuel and unleaded gasoline. The quoted price per gallon of diesel was $3.1557. The quoted price per gallon of unleaded gasoline was $3.009. That’s not what the city will pay for fuel though — as the price for both fluctuate, the city will pay a nickel per gallon over rack price.

•Nu-Life Environmental had the low bid for 6-yard dumpsters at $850 apiece.

•Chilton Contractors had the low bid for hauling of rock at $4.57 per ton of 3/4-inch crushed rock, $4.75 per ton of No. 57 stone and $4.95 per ton of riprap.

•Dixie Wheel & Tire Inc. had the low bid for police department tires. The total quoted price for one of seven different kinds of tire was $803.98.

•Otto Environmental Systems, LLC had the only bid for garbage roll out carts at $49.31 apiece.

•Southeast Materials Corporation had the low bid for rock at $6.90 per ton of 3/4 –inch crushed rock, $7.40 per ton of No. 57 stone and $9.90 per ton of riprap.

In other business, the council took the following actions:

•Waived city license requirements for the upcoming Chilton County Fair, sponsored by the Clanton Kiwanis Club.

•Approved sending Clanton Police Sgt. Neil Fetner to the Southern Software Training Conference in South Carolina and Dewayne Driver and Cameron Bates to Fire Inspector I class at the Alabama Fire College. Both training programs are in October.

•Reappointed Mary Mell Smith to another six-year term on the Airport Authority board.

•Douglas Tisdale from Care Ambulance asked the city to consider alternating calls between his company and Regional Paramedical Services (RPS Ambulance) on an every-other-call basis. Currently, E-911 rotates calls between the two companies on an every-other-day basis. The matter was tabled until a future meeting.
