The third trial of Jason Murphy being scheduled in Chilton County has been canceled at this time.
Circuit Judge Sibley Reynolds issued an order to cancel the jury selection for a trial that would have begun Monday. According to the order, the case is currently under a stay order from the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals and there is a petition to stay pending in the Alabama Supreme Court.
Circuit Clerk Glenn McGriff said that anyone who had been selected for that jury duty beginning Monday in the Murphy case does not need to show up in court Monday morning.
Murphy and his younger brother, Jared, were charged with capital murder in the death of Ronnie Holman, an Elmore County businessman. Holman was shot to death July 29, 2003, in the front yard of his home.
Jason Murphy has been tried twice, but a mistrial was declared in both cases. Jared Murphy has yet to be tried in court.
