Giving thanks

As adults, people find things to be thankful for during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Most of the time, an adult is thankful for things like having a roof over their family’s head and dinner on the table.
Children, however, view the holidays very differently and have their own reasons to be thankful during such a special time of the year. Many, in fact, don’t even think about material things when they are being thankful.
Hailey Wingard, a first grade student at Clanton Elementary, said she was thankful for her mom and dad because they took care of her. Her second thought to be thankful for was the land God had given her and her family.
Many other kids said they were thankful for their family as well as things like having a turkey dinner and spending time with family.
Another first grader at Clanton Elementary School, Lawson Patterson said, “I am thankful for my family because there are a lot of people out there who might not have a family, and this is a good time to have a family.”
As people grow up, they tend to change the things they are thankful for, and sometimes it takes a child to bring back the true purposes for being thankful. If a child is thankful for having family, then perhaps adults should echo the same sentiments.
Lots of adults lose the ability to be happy with life because they change the things they are thankful for.
There have been many movies where a couple is so in love that they give up their most prized possession just to buy the other a special present for Christmas, when all along just being together was enough to be thankful for.
It seems to be true what people say about the innocence of a child teaching adults instead of adults being the only teachers.
