The Clanton Police Department saw a 25-percent increase in calls this Labor Day weekend compared to last year.

An ADECA Traffic Safety Grant helped put six extra patrol officers out during peak times this weekend, said Police Chief Brian Stilwell. Departments use the grant to look for DUI’s and aggressive driving.

During the weekend, Clanton police made 31 arrests, including five for DUI. Officers also filed 38 offense reports, 42 traffic citations, 88 warning citations, and eight code and ordinance violations. They also worked eight traffic accidents and generated 24 new warrants.

“We are grateful to the ADECA Highway Traffic Safety Unit and Jeff State for this grant,” said Stilwell. “It helped us put extra officers out to handle the increased calls.”
