A horse farm in Verbena was ablaze with large crowds and Christian contemporary music during the 15th annual En Fuego music festival Aug. 27.

Co-founder Travis Crim changed hats this year and served as the event’s main speaker, while Wesley Springer took over as emcee.

“He (Crim) did a phenomenal job sharing the gospel,” said Johnny Giles, co-founder. “It was exciting to have him back.”

Musical acts included Sent By Ravens, Luminate, Sanctus Real and the David Crowder*Band. Admission to the all-day event was free.

“Our biggest challenge was finding parking places for everybody,” Giles said. “We had a great crowd. It was one of the largest crowds we’ve ever had.”

Giles said the gorgeous weather also contributed to the increase in attendance.

“The weather was a big plus for us,” Giles said.

Ministry tents dotted the venue, offering anything from sexual abuse counseling to Christian camp information, and five different radio stations were on-site.

“We had several decisions for the Lord,” Giles said. “We were excited about those decisions. That is obviously why we do what we do.”

En Fuego relies solely on individual and business sponsors to fund its festival each year, as well as several local church donations.

The 2011 sponsors did not let En Fuego down.

“That, in itself, is a miracle at a time when the economy is so tough,” Giles said. “God obviously has a hand on it.”

Giles said the volunteer staff is largest the day of En Fuego, but anyone may volunteer at any time during the year.

“We still have opportunities for people to come on board and help,” Giles said. “There’s still tons of help that could be utilized after the event.”
