Alabama obesity taskforce to meet Wednesday in Clanton

The Alabama Obesity Task Force will meet from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at the Alabama Power Water Course in Clanton.
Presenters and the subjects of their presentations include the following:
•Molly Killman, “Fruit and Veggie Month: Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools.”
•Jennifer Adams, “Family and Consumer Science Teachers’ Approach to Job Readiness and Star Events.”
•Polly McClure, “Reach Out and Read: Connection to Obesity Prevention.”
•Michael Jackson, “Advocacy Efforts and Grant Opportunities.”
The most recent rankings put Alabama in the top three states in obesity, diabetes and hypertension. It is estimated that a third of the people living in Alabama are obese, with two-thirds classified as overweight.
Task Force members are currently developing and implementing a comprehensive, realistic statewide plan to reduce Alabama’s obesity epidemic.
A program of the Alabama Department of Public Health, the Alabama Obesity Task Force works to prevent and reduce obesity for a healthier Alabama.
