Lykes dismissed for violating team rules

Former Chilton County star Derrick Lykes was dismissed from the Auburn University football team, an Auburn spokesman confirmed.
The reason given for Lykes’ dismissal was a “violation of team rules.”
Lykes declined to comment on the dismissal.
Lykes graduated from CCHS in 2008 after a senior season in which he missed all but the first three games because of an ankle injury.
Former AU coach Tommy Tuberville honored a scholarship offer that had been extended to Lykes during a summer camp before the season, and the defensive end/tight end became the Tigers’ first in-state commitment of his class.
Lykes redshirted during the 2008 season and then played in all 13 of Auburn’s games in 2009, recording nine tackles as a defensive end and on special teams, under new coach Gene Chizik.
He played in three games in 2010 as Auburn won the national championship.
