Bears sweep three from Isabella

Billingsley’s B-team Bears on Tuesday mauled the visiting Mustangs from Isabella in the second half to win the game going away at 42 to 28.
Willie Stacy for Isabella led all scorers with 12 points. Carlos Carver paced the Bears with 11 points.

The Lady Bears came out with a full-court, man-to-man defense and seemed to confuse the Lady Mustangs early.
The Lady Mustangs made a couple of runs at the Lady Bears in both halves, but they seemed to lack continuity all night.
Billingsley forced many turnovers all night and kept the Lady Mustangs out of sync.
Billingsley won the game 47 to 29.
Lady Bear Viola Tyus led all scorers with 12 points. Amber Wyatt led the Lady Mustangs with 7 points.
Billingsley boys 63, Isabella 61
The visiting Mustangs looked great for the first 3 minutes of the game, outplaying and outscoring the Bears. Once the Bears got their feet under them, they ran at the Mustangs and led at the break by eight points at 30 to 22.
Billingsley pushed the lead to as much as 15 in the third period. The Mustangs then played the best period of the year for them in the fourth and made the game exciting.
With 2:11 remaining, Norman Craig fouled out, and Isabella was down by six at 56 to 50. Isabella used quick fouls and good rebounding to cut the score to 57-54 with 1:35 left.
After several more changes of possession, the score stood at 63 to 58 Billingsley. Brandon Veazey drove to the 3-point line and calmly hit one to make it 63 to 61 with 14.4 seconds left.
The teams could not make another basket before the buzzer. In what could have been Isabella’s best quarter of basketball this season, they were unable to overcome the Bears.
Veazey led all scorers with 24 points and brought down 10 rebounds. Brian Donovan added 23 points with nine rebounds for the Mustangs. Jay Tyus led Billingsley with 22 points.
