Emily Jennings of Thorsby School has a way with words. Her favorite subject in school is English.
“I like to spell, and I like grammar. I just like it,” she said.
The 13-year-old also writes poetry and enjoys finding words that rhyme. One of her favorite poems is “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost. She has not chosen to make her poems public, however.
“I just keep them to myself,” she said.
Emily has taken piano lessons since the third grade, and sometimes plays for her church, Robinson Springs Baptist Church. She sometimes shares her talent during special singing services. “Amazing Grace” is a favorite of hers.
“I play mostly church music,” she added.
Visiting her grandparents is a weekend tradition that usually includes a big Sunday dinner. Rumor has it her grandmother’s fried chicken is hard to beat.
When asked about her post-graduation plans, Emily said she might continue in the family business, Jennings Heating and Air, or possibly work in a bank. If she attends college, it will likely be the University of Alabama.
The eighth grader also participates in Jr. Beta Club, FCCLA and FFA. She is the daughter of Ronnie and Angela Jennings and has three younger sisters, Kayla, Abby and Lacey.
