The Clanton City Council approved closing downtown streets Friday, June 25 for the annual Peach Jam Jubilee.
Streets will be closed starting at 2 p.m. that Friday into the night. The sixth annual Peach Jam will kick off between 4-5 p.m. with plenty of games, food and arts/craft vendors. There will be two stages this year. The top act, The Tip Tops, will take to the stage at 8 p.m.
More information about exactly what streets will be closed will be printed in The Advertiser’s Guide to Peach Fest 2010, which will be in this coming Weekend paper.
In other business, the council took the following actions:
Denied a rezoning request that would have rezoned a lot at 1578 Samaria Road from agriculture to business (B-2).
Declared a police department Crown Victoria as surplus, which allows the car to be put up for bids and sold.
Approved a lifeguard for E.M. Henry Park.
Brought David Kline on as a full-time officer for the Clanton Police Department.
Accepted the resignation of Richard Leonard from the Clanton Fire Department.
Approved sending Clanton police information technology officer Neil Fetner to a digital forensic class in July at the University of Mississippi.
