Young Miss Peach contestants held a cupcake decorating party before their first practice Tuesday evening.

The girls decorated yellow cupcakes with vanilla, chocolate or strawberry icing and topped them with sprinkles and other candy.

Reigning Young Miss Peach Anna Calhoun said she enjoyed the party at Clanton First United Methodist Church’s activity center. She added: “Here we have air conditioning.”

Last year’s Young Miss party was held at a peach orchard, where the girls, who range in age from 8 through 11, picked peaches. Some of them who competed last year too described the day as “miserably hot.”

Calhoun will crown her successor Monday, June 21. The Junior Miss contestants held a nail painting party Monday night.

The youngest contestants will hold a Little Miss Party Wednesday evening at Petals from the Past in Jemison. The older girls will have their Miss Peach Party, which has a skating theme, on Friday.
