There are plenty of serious issues in the news this week, so I’ll take this opportunity to write about snow.

Before January 2008, the concept of snow was so far from my mind I was ready to accept the fate that I would never see another snowflake in Central Alabama. But that month, after many snow-less seasons, we got a decent covering of Mother Nature’s dandruff.

Sunday, we were surprised yet again (or at least I was) by what turned into a pretty good snowstorm.

I spent most of the day outside either shielding my face or my camera from the constant barrage of snow. I was frantically trying to capture the moment because I lost last year’s snow pictures thanks to a computer disaster.

I hope you went online to spotted.clantonadvertiser.com and checked out some of the photos taken by our readers. There were many excellent snapshots, some of which were published in the Tuesday edition of our newspaper.

Obviously, snow is a big deal here in the South, and it’s a big deal to me. My wife and I are like kids on Christmas Day anytime it snows. You just don’t get the stuff that much, especially if you don’t travel north a lot.

What’s funny to me is that the snow melts quickly, but several days later you still have those little patches of ice in shadowy places. I saw these as late in the week as Wednesday.
