The local American Legion baseball team fell, 13-4, in its first game of the state tournament Friday.

Clanton’s Douglas Glass Post 6 was defeated by West Limestone Post 49.

Post 6 fought back from an early deficit to tie the game at 4 at the end of the seventh inning, but Post 49 scored nine unanswered runs in the top of the eighth inning for the win.

“We couldn’t get them out,” Post 6 coach Tim Cahalane said.

Autauga Academy’s Stuart Dawson got Post 6 on the scoreboard first by scoring a run on a passed ball in the bottom of the first inning.

Preston Wallace of Billingsley then scored when Verbena’s Jacob Montgomery hit into a fielder’s choice in the fifth inning.

Down 4-2 in the seventh inning, the final one of regulation, Post 6 loaded the bases with no outs.

Sacrifice fly balls off the bats of Dawson and Isabella’s Sawyer Cahalane plated Wallace and Montgomery to tie the game.

Alex Campbell of Jemison started on the mound for Post 6 and went four innings. He was relieved by Marbury’s Matt Hand, who pitched three innings of effective relief.
