Maplesville High School cracked the top 10 of the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s high school basketball rankings for the first time since 2002 in the last set of rankings that were released on Jan. 30.

This was the first time the Red Devils were ranked since head coach Undra Rush was a senior player on the squad when they finished 21-5 overall 22 years ago.

The Red Devils finished the regular season at 13-3 to earn the No. 10 ranking heading into the Class 1A Area 7 Basketball Tournament at Francis Marion High School on Feb. 1-3. Maplesville defeated Billingsley High School in the semifinals 41-34 to advance to the area tournament final on Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. against Francis Marion.
