Earlier in December, the City of Clanton Arts Council voted to provide financial support to the arts in a local capacity, and Clanton Elementary School art teacher Julie Harrison was the recipient.
The group made a $1,000 donation to Harrison that will provide five student scholarships to her summer art camp that has been ongoing for over 10 years. The donation will cover the five student scholarships, as well as two high school internship positions, a facility rental fee and snacks for all the campers. The summer of 2025 will be the art camp’s 12th consecutive year.
“I love having students who are passionate about art come and learn more,” Harrison said in a press release from the City of Clanton. “We practice watercolors, acrylics, tempera paintings, drawings, collage, recycled art and wood art.”
The camp is for children ages four to 12, and is hosted by Walnut Creek Methodist Church. More information for the 2025 camp will be released in the spring. Harrison can be contacted at julieneusslharrison@gmail.com for more information on the camp.
