Jemison High School’s Zariyah Johnson is this week’s athlete of the week for Dec. 13-19 following her performances against Chilton County and Demopolis High Schools. Johnson’s week included her season-high in points and her ninth and 10th double-digit scoring games of the season.

Her week started by helping the Panthers extend their winning streak to three games with a narrow 39-38 win over CCHS on Dec. 13 that saw the senior go for 15 points, seven steals and five rebounds. The win moved Jemison to 5-0 this season against in-county rivals leading into the county tournament after the start of the new year.

Johnson followed that up with a season-high 34 points in the Panthers first Class 5A Area 5 game of the season against Demopolis on Dec. 16 to get them started on the right foot in area play. Her totals included a 10-for-15 effort at the free throw line, and she added six rebounds and six steals.

Both wins helped Jemison to its season-best four-game winning streak and improve their record to 9-3 overall during an impressive first half of the season.
