The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) released details on Nov. 7 about its plans for rehabilitation and painting of the Verbena-Welona Bridge on AL Highway 22. The bridge connects Chilton and Coosa Counties and goes over the Coosa River northeast of Verbena.

The maintenance is intended to extend the lifespan of the bridge, and repainting the bridge in its gray color will be part of the improvements. The maintenance on the bridge will begin on Nov. 11, and it is projected to take a year to complete with weather permitting. Cekra Inc. was awarded the project at $3,339,000.

The maintenance will cause a single-lane closure at times, and Cekra will install temporary traffic signals to help manage traffic flow and enhance safety when a lane is closed. ALDOT says motorists should expect possible delays, and are encouraged to observe work-zone speed limits.
