One of the most anticipated culinary nights in Chilton County took place on Oct. 21 as restaurants from around the county were represented under one roof at the 2024 Taste of Chilton. The sixth annual event held at Senior Connection in Clanton was filled with traditional favorites from around Chilton County.
In the best overall, two restaurants in Clanton tied for the top spot — Ya Betta Eat Cajun Smokehouse and Valle Grande Mexican Grill. Ya Betta Eat and owner Chris Courville took a share of the top spot in their first Taste of Chilton since opening their restaurant in downtown Clanton over the summer. Ya Betta Eat had its signature jambalaya, gumbo and boudin balls for guests to try.
After winning their first and second Taste of Chilton crowns last year taking both the savory and overall categories, Valle Grande and owners Luis and Sergio Sanchez repeated this year in the overall category with a share of the win. The Sanchez brothers brought Valle Grande’s chipotle chicken over rice, which was once again a huge hit amongst the crowd.
Another repeat winner came in best sweet with Gema’s Cupcakes Plus winning the category for the fourth consecutive year with their variety of miniature cupcakes and other sweet treats.
The only first-time winner at this year’s Taste of Chilton was The Frozen Goat’s variety of chicken salads taking first in best savory.
More coverage and photos of the 2024 Taste of Chilton will be featured in the winter edition of Peach Living magazine coming out in early December.
