Thorsby High School will settle for the No. 4 seed out of Class 3A Region 3 for the state playoffs following a 56-27 loss to Southside High School on Oct. 25. The Rebels finish their first season back in Class 3A with a 4-3 region record.
Thorsby got into a 20-0 hole early, but worked its way back into the game, starting with Grayson McManus finding Logan Ellison for a 37-yard touchdown followed by McManus to Christian Davenport for the two-point conversion. After Southside responded with a touchdown, McManus got the Rebels on the scoreboard again, taking it himself 20 yards for the touchdown to make it 26-14. However, Southside ended the half with 16 unanswered points to lead comfortably 42-14 at halftime.
McManus got his third touchdown in the third quarter, his second through the air — a seven-yard toss to Brooks Barnett. Christopher Buendtner pushed across the last score for Thorsby, a three-yard touchdown carry, just before time expired.
Thorsby (4-5) finishes its regular season on Nov. 1 in its next game, traveling to B.B. Comer High School at 7 p.m.
