Local youth take wins during opening Alabama National Fair Livestock Shows

Chilton County youth took home top spots during the opening days of the Alabama National Fair Livestock Shows on Oct. 4-5 in Montgomery.

Lillian Smith was named the Grand Champion of the AOB Continental Reserve during the Alabama National Fair Youth Beef Cattle Breeding Heifer Show inside Teague Arena. In the Intermediate Premier Exhibitors Beef Show, Smith finished runners-up, and she also took third place in the Alabama National Fair Youth Beef Show’s intermediate showmanship division. The intermediate showmanship groups youth aged 13-15.

Claire Smith was crowned a Grand Champion in the Alabama National Fair Youth Beef Show’s junior showmanship division that includes 9-12-year-old youth. She also took home second place in the Junior Premier Exhibitors in the beef show as well.

The fair livestock shows were sponsored by the Alabama Farmers Federation and ALFA Insurance. Beef and goat shows were hosted during the first weekend of the fair while dairy shows were hosted during the week. Sheep and swine shows fell during the second weekend.
