Maplesville High School cruised on its homecoming night to a 34-0 win over Autaugaville High School on Oct. 4 and remained unbeaten in Class 1A Region 4 play.

The Red Devils busted the game open in the second quarter with quarterback Pearce Yeargan in control. Yeargan found Colby Mitchell for a six-yard touchdown connection and James Jones for a nine-yard score, and combined with his 20-yard rushing touchdown, built a 21-0 lead for the Red Devils into halftime. Yeargan was 7-for-12 for 140 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.

The quarterback came out firing again in the third quarter finding Ethan Rencher for a 47-yard touchdown, and Roman Hall put the finishing touch on the game with a six-yard score to bring the game to its final resting place at 34-0.

Hall ran for a team high 61 yards on 11 carries, and Maplesville welcomed back Nehemiah McCary into the backfield in an expanded role for the first time this season to the tune of 12 carries for 40 yards. Jones and Jay Lagrone each had five tackles to lead the defense, and R.J. Rencher pulled down an interception.

Maplesville (5-1) clinched its spot in the Class 1A Football State Playoffs with the win, and will stay in region play traveling to Billingsley High School on Oct. 11 for its next game at 7 p.m.
