Chilton County High School’s Kelijah Lucas is this week’s athlete of the week for Sept. 27-Oct. 3 following his performance against Brookwood High School on Sept. 27. The senior running back was the top performer for CCHS to help the Tigers collect their second win of the season, a homecoming win and snap a three-game losing streak with the 39-7 victory.
Lucas ran for a season-high 246 yards on 19 carries and got into the end zone three times. The senior will need to be a pivotal point moving forward for the Tigers offense the rest of the season to give them a shot at the Class 6A State Football Playoffs.
Honorable mention: Denson Mahan, Chilton Christian Academy
As the lone senior on the Patriots’ squad, quarterback Denson Mahan has been tasked with not only playing well this year, but also helping develop his young teammates along the way. He did the first one very well on Sept. 27, helping CCA to its first regulation win of the season over Cahawba Christian Academy 46-12.
Mahan accounted for six touchdowns for the Patriots — three through the air and three on the ground. He was 4-for-6 passing for 136 yards and three touchdowns, and each of his three carries went for touchdowns and for 54 yards combined.
