Billingsley High School snapped a three-game skid on Sept. 20 against Autaugaville High School, winning on the road 43-18. The Bears’ offense piled up 385 yards and five touchdowns on the ground to pull away for the comfortable win.

Kaden Cotton was the leading rusher for the Bears with 243 yards on 10 carries, a 24.3 yards per carry average, and four touchdowns. Quarterback Landon Jones got in for a score and ran for 68 yards on seven carries, and only threw the ball 10 times completing half of those for 34 yards.

“We struggled a bit in the first half offensively because they were sending a lot of pressure and we had some young linemen having to play due to injuries,” Billingsley head coach Lanny Jones said. “We switched to an I formation so that we could attack the line of scrimmage quicker to counter six- and seven-man pressures, and it was very successful for us. This was a huge region win to keep us in the hunt for a playoff position.”

On defense, Billingsley Kyle Boice posted a season high in tackles with 16 stops, followed by Landon Jones with 11 tackles and Caleb Massey with seven.

Billingsley (2-3) steps out of region play for its next game on Sept. 27 hosting Isabella High School with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
