Thorsby High School got back on track and its first win of the 2024 season on Sept. 6, beating Sumter Central High School 50-8 at home. The Rebels offensive explosion was much needed after a few stagnant games from the unit. The offense was on point from the opening kickoff and posted a 43-8 lead at halftime that put the game out of reach early on. The Rebels threw the ball just three times in the game but piled up 380 rushing yards as nine players ran the ball and six different players scored.

Brooks Barnett, Christopher Buendtner, Manuel Castillo, Tyler Lockhart and Grayson McManus all got into the end zone for the Rebels in the first half. Braylon Carroll punched in a short touchdown in the second half, and all of the scores from Thorsby came via the running game.

McManus was the leading rusher for the Rebels with 113 yards on just four carries and two touchdowns, followed by Lockhart with 59 yards, Carroll with 56 yards and Barnett with 52 yards.

Thorsby’s defense was led by Malachi Allgood with eight tackles in shutout win, two of those coming for a loss. Allgood was followed by Lockhart with seven and Collier Price with six tackles. Devin Turner and Barnett each had a sack, Drew Waters intercepted a pass and Barnett caused a fumble that was recovered by Allgood.

Thorsby (1-2) hosts Wilcox Central High School on Sept. 13 for the school’s homecoming game in its next matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and homecoming festivities will be held at halftime.
