Billingsley High School dropped its first Class 1A Region 4 game of the season to Autauga Academy 38-0 on Sept. 6. The Bears drop their second straight game after winning their season opener.
“We just got beat in every aspect of the game, and that is about it,” Billingsley head coach Lanny Jones said.
The Bears struggled to find their footing on offense with just 138 total yards with 101 of those coming on the ground. Kaden Cotton led the rushers with 50 yards on 13 carries. The Bears defense was led by Landon Jones with six tackles, followed by Lane Plott, Jake Rawlinson and Kyson Thomas all with five.
“Until we become more physical, it is going to be hard for us to play well on defense,” Jones said. “That translates to not getting off blocks, not making tackles when we have a chance to make stops in the backfield and execution. That goes back to being young in certain positions … I think our young guys need to grow up fast and we need to become more physical.”
Billingsley (1-2) will look to get back on track on Sept. 13 hosting local rival Verbena High School in its next game, another Class 1A Region 4 clash with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
