One of Chilton Christian Academy’s most prolific players in girl’s basketball program history Kaylee Calloway signed a full-ride scholarship to Faulkner University in May. The recent CCA graduate chose Faulkner in Montgomery to continue her athletic and academic career, and to also keep close to her Christian roots, which was important to her during her recruiting process.

“I really liked that they were a Christian school and that they required the hours for Chapel,” Calloway said

Calloway’s career at CCA on the varsity team started in the eighth grade, and it is littered with awards and accomplishments including Offensive Player of the Year awards and the prestigious Todd Steven’s Spirit of CCA Award. She also added Alabama Christian Athletic Association All-State 1st Team honors for the 2023-2024 season, and collected several MVP honors at ACAA tournaments during her career.

However, Calloway said the friendships and relationships she made while at CCA are what she will carry with her the most into her college career.

“CCA is a small school, so it is very easy to make a lot of close friendships there,” Calloway said. “You got to meet everyone and make close relationships with just about everyone there.”

Calloway proved to be a versatile player for CCA and can play nearly all five spots on the floor. Her willingness to be fluid in different positions and to get her teammates involved makes her a valuable asset to the Faulkner women’s basketball program.

The step up to the college ranks from high school is tough on any athlete, and Calloway plans to keep improving once at Faulkner by practicing outside of normal team practices and continuing to work on her craft. No matter where her college career takes her, her time at CCA will still remain close to her.

“(CCA) was like a family, and everyone worked together and we did what each other needed,” Calloway said. “Every girl was there for each other even outside of basketball and school, on and off the court. It was just good to have pretty much a second family there for you.”

Calloway will arrive at Faulkner this fall and dive into preparations for the 2024-2025 season with the Eagles.
