Thorsby High School’s FFA program added three more teams to compete at state FFA competition at Auburn University on June 3 at the central district competition in April. The central district competition, held at Southern Union State Community College in Wadley, saw the Rebels send their veterinary science, poultry evaluation and meats evaluation teams to the state competition. The veterinary science and meats evaluation teams both won their respective divisions at the central district competition, and the poultry evaluation team finished runners-up in theirs.
Those three teams joined the land judging team who advanced to the state competition at its district competition in October 2023. FFA competitions are not divided into classifications like sports, and Thorsby clinched their state competition spots competing against schools with an array of different enrollments and resources.
Sophomore Chesnee Dewitt was the highest scoring individual in the meats evaluation at the central district competition to lead the Thorsby FFA team overall.
