Maplesville High School extended its winning streak to five games during Chilton County’s high school baseball action the week of March 15-21.

The Red Devils swept the doubleheader on March 18 over Autaugaville High School with a 13-0 win in game one led by Braden Atcheson going 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs, and Bradlee Padgett, Pearce Yeargan and Aiden Abbott having two RBIs each. Maplesville won game two 16-1 with Jake Carlee tallying four RBIs and Trace Payne with three.

Maplesville moved to 3-0 in AHSAA Class 1A Area 6 play with a 10-0 win over Verbena High School on March 19. Padgett went five innings of one-hit baseball with two walks and six strikeouts. Abbott, Jacob Coats and Cade Smith had two RBIs each. Caleb Short had the only hit for Verbena.

The Red Devils outlasted West Blocton High School 16-15 on March 20 with Abbott having three RBIs, and Luke Gray, Padgett and Yeargan with two RBIs each.

Thorsby High School had a light week with only two games, both at Verbena High School on March 16. The Rebels won both, starting with a 15-0 win over Calhoun High School where they had 11 hits as a team. Patrick Prady was 2-for-3 with a triple, home run and two RBIs, and Nate Thomas and Aiden Seeley had three RBIs each. In game two, J.T. Green and Seeley combined for a no hitter in a 9-0 win over Verbena. The two combined for seven innings, no hits, two walks and 11 strikeouts. Gavin Parker and Prady each had home runs in game two.

Verbena picked up wins during its week, starting on March 18 defeating Notasulga High School 19-0. Jackson Brothers and Greyson Deavers each had three RBIs in the win. In a doubleheader with Autaugaville on March 21, the Red Devils took game one 9-2 as Ryan Simmons went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the way. Jaxson Kelley threw seven innings with four hits, two runs (both unearned) and 11 strikeouts. Verbena was up 9-1 in game two before the game was called due to darkness.

Billingsley High School won two out of three games during its week, beginning with a 12-0 triumph over Isabella High School on March 18. Eli Manning was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs, and Landon Jones was 2-for-3 as well with three RBIs. Mason Truesdale controlled the bump for the Bears going five innings with two hits and eight strikeouts. The game was the Mustangs only action during the week, and Levi Wilkins’ double and Eli Boatwright’s single were the only hits for Isabella.

The Bears split a doubleheader with Fayetteville High School on March 21. Kyle Boice and Turner Motley both went 2-for-4, and Gavin Arnold had three RBIs in game one to win 12-1. Boice started the game and went five innings with four hits, one unearned run and four strikeouts. The Bears fell 6-1 in game two, and Manning picked up an RBI single.

Chilton County High School had a crucial week as its AHSAA Class 6A Area 5 schedule got underway against Calera High School on March 19 and 21. Prior to that, the Tigers dropped a March 15 clash with Pelham High School 8-7 after a walk-off, two-run home run in the seventh inning. J.D. Terrell was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs, and Logan Coppedge and Cohen Ellison had an RBI each. The Tigers picked up a win on March 16 against John Carroll Catholic High School 5-4 after an error on a Josh Parker line drive walked it off. Ellison had two RBIs in the win.

CCHS dropped both area games to Calera — 7-2 on March 19 and 2-1 on March 21. Kepler Lively and Garrett Lawley had the only hits in the first game for the Tigers, both singles. Brody Pierce’s double and Parker’s single were the only hits in game two, but the ending of the game came with controversy as the tying run seemed to cross the plate during a rundown that would have tied the game. However, the run was taken off the board after an umpire meeting, and CCHS fell to 0-2 in area play with one more series left to come.

Jemison High School’s week featured three games against AHSAA Class 5A Area 7 rival Marbury High School, starting with a 6-0 loss on March 19 with Hunter Scott earning a single. Jemison hosted Marbury for a doubleheader on March 21 and dropped both games, the first 10-3 and the second 5-1. Daniel Flores was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and King Swindle was 2-for-3 in game one. Trent Gaines had an RBI in game two.
