Chilton County High School’s Ishunti Brown is this week’s athlete of the week after her performances during the week of Dec. 2-7.
CCHS has had a handful of players the last few seasons who are capable of filling the stat sheet and grabbing a triple-double each time out on the court. Add Brown’s name to that list, as the junior picked up her first triple-double of the season on Dec. 4 in the Tigers’ 67-23 win over Jemison High School. Brown posted 11 points, and season highs in rebounds and assists with 21 and 10, respectively.
Brown had 15 rebounds in the Tigers 49-41 win over Elmore County High School on Dec. 5 to bring her season average up to 12.5 rebounds per game.
Honorable mention: Alana Jones, Billingsley High School
Billingsley sophomore Alana Jones had the best game of her high school basketball career posting 28 points on 10-for-14 shooting in the Bears’ 48-44 win over Loachapoka High School on Dec. 7. Jones added 17 rebounds, five steals and four assists to help Billingsley begin AHSAA Class 1A Area 7 play on a positive note.
Honorable mention: D.J. Caffey, Chilton County High School
Senior D.J. Caffey has made an impact within the Tigers starting five in his final season on the hardwood at CCHS. Caffey registered his second 20-point performance of the season on Dec. 5 posting 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting, including 5-for-6 from 3-point range, in the Tigers 67-32 win over Elmore County.
Caffey also had 11 points, four rebounds and four assists in the Tigers’ 53-20 win over Jemison on Dec. 4.
Honorable mention: Amelia Fjeldstad, Isabella High School
The Mustang point guard is on a mission to 2,000 career points, and although it would take an incredible scoring display throughout the season, senior Amelia Fjeldstad is doing everything she can to get there. Fjeldstad posted a pair of 23-point performances during the week, starting with a 65-9 win over Verbena High School on Dec. 5, followed by a 72-33 win over Maplesville High School on Dec. 7.
