Cawaco Resource Conservation & Development announced on Nov. 2 that six different organizations in Maplesville and Clanton received $36,500 in funding for area projects.

The grants were issued as part of the Cawaco RC&D 2023 grant cycle to Butterfly Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center, Maplesville High School, Maplesville High School FFA, The Wellness Group, Town of Maplesville and the Chilton County Master Gardeners program. Alabama Senators April Weaver and Clyde Chambliss and Alabama State Representative Van Smith joined the grantees for the presentation of the funds.

Chambliss said he is “amazed at the diversified use of funds and appreciates seeing taxpayer dollars being put to good use,” in a press release from Cawaco RC&D.

“I want to thank all the organizations that applied for funds and for all the work you do in making our communities better,” Chambliss added.

Butterfly Bridge will be using their portion of the funds to contribute towards its healing garden in the nonprofit’s backyard. Other grantees will use its funds towards projects geared towards assisting their communities as well.

Weaver thanked Cawaco RC&D, legislature and the organizations for putting the grant funds to good use.

“I want to thank each of you for taking care of so many in our community,” said Weaver in the press release. “These are all worthwhile projects that all of you are doing, and we are excited to be a part of it.”

Smith added in the press release that the grantees who were awarded funds this cycle are “setting a great example for future organizations on how to locally lead.”

“These projects are very worthwhile. I know you all have a heart to serve, and we are glad to appropriate these funds to enhance your ability to serve the community you love,” Smith added.
