Chilton County High School held a lead late into the second half over Homewood High School on Oct. 13, but a big fourth quarter by the Patriots downed the Tigers 34-13 on the road.

The Tigers opened the scoring as quarterback Logan Coppedge found Demarcus Riddick for a 26-yard touchdown to put CCHS on top 6-0 after the missed two-point conversion.

“We came out in that first half, and the guys competed, played hard and I was pleased with the way the team competed the entire game,” Chilton County head coach Marvin Morton said.

CCHS added to their lead just before halftime, breaking out the double pass from Coppedge to Luke Moates, then 31 yards to the end zone for Hunter Ousley.

Ousley grabbed three catches for 81 yards and a touchdown in the game, and Coppedge was 8-for-19 for 180 yards with one touchdown and interception each.

The score stood at 13-13 entering the fourth quarter, and CCHS was inside Homewood territory. However, a Tigers’ turnover resulted in points for the Patriots and the Tigers could not bounce back after.

D.J. Jackson ran for over 100 yards again for CCHS going for 131 yards on 17 carries. D.J. Caffey led the Tigers’ defense with 10 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble that he recovered as well. Ricardo Parker added seven tackles and two sacks.

“I told the guys that we still have a lot to fight for and a chance to finish the season 5-5 and not have a losing season and have a chance to get another region win,” Morton said. “We still have opportunities to compete, and we need to put our hard work into those ballgames. The kids are not going to give up. We are going to use the bye week this week to get our legs back under us, and evaluate ourselves and clean up the techniques we need to do to be successful these next few weeks.”

Chilton County (3-5) will be on bye next week, but is back in action on Oct. 27 traveling to Pelham High School for the Tigers final AHSAA Class 6A Region 3 game of the season.
