Commission approves speed limit changes, accepts nominations

The Chilton County Commission held a brief meeting on Aug. 8 and altered some speed limits on certain portions of roads in the county. The Chilton County Road Department received approval from the commission to post a 40 MPH speed limit on County Road 74 between the intersections of County Road 216 and County Road 37 (0.52 mile). There was also approval to post a 40 MPH speed limit on County Road 216 between the intersections of County Road 74 and Tuscaloosa Road (0.37 mile).
The commission held nominations for the Chilton County Board of Equalization which has three openings on it. Tim Little recommended three nominations to the commission which they supported — Richard Lawrence, Hal Harrison and Peggy Hall. Nominations will be open for two more meetings before voting during the third meeting to fill the positions.
Commission Chairman Jimmie Hardee was nominated by Commissioner Joseph Parnell as the county’s nomination for the Association of County Commissioners of Alabama (ACCA) Legislative Committee. The motion was approved unanimously, and Hardee will assume the position on the committee immediately.
The commission also announced the next meeting scheduled for Aug. 22 has been rescheduled for Aug. 29.
Also, during the meeting the commission:
- Reclassified Carson Brown from corrections officer to deputy sheriff at the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office.
- Accepted the resignation of Scott Tanner at Minooka Park and approved to advertise for and hire a park ranger.
- Approved to advertise a public hearing for an alcohol license application for Frog Liquor LLC doing business as The Frog Liquor Store at 6637 AL Highway 22, Maplesville.
