Memorial Service for Mr. Walter Earl Gowan, 77, of Alexander City, will be Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 2pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Alexander City. Rev. Bruce McClendon and Father Rob Iler will officiate.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home. Walter, a beloved educator, devoted family man, and passionate historian, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2023, at his home in Alexander City, Alabama after a brave battle with cancer.

He was born on December 3, 1945 in Montgomery, Alabama to Joe Earl Gowan and Elizabeth Warwick Gowan.  He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his Wife, Carol Gowan of Alexander City, AL, Son, Jonathan Seth Gowan (Sallie) of Montgomery, AL, Daughter, Elizabeth Frances Gowan of Auburn, AL, Sister, Barnette “Bee” Worpell.

He was preceded in death by his Father, Joe Earl Gowan, Mother, Elizabeth Gowan, Brother-in-law, Jerry Worpell.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to First Presbyterian Church 371 Jefferson Street Alexander City, AL  35010 and to St. James Episcopal Church Soup to Go Ministry 347 South Central Ave. Alexander City, AL  35010.
