The Thorsby City Council received its yearly audit from accountant Howey McNeill at its meeting on July 17 and received positive news all around.
The September 30, 2022 audit done by McNeill showed the governmental side had a positive net position of $2.2 million, and the water and sewer side had a positive net position of $1.4 million. Overall, the city had a $3,734,303 positive net position during the year.
“Everything looked good (in the audit),” McNeill said. “We did our audit and found nothing that was out of the ordinary or misleading. Everything is very similar from the previous years … Everyone here makes it easy for me when I need information.”
Thorsby gained $373,130 in positive net position on the governmental side from the previous year, and lost $6,645 on the water and sewer side. The negative number comes from a positive water number and a negative sewer number, which is right where municipalities want to be in that fund, according to McNeill.
The total assets for Thorsby is $1.9 million, and that comes from $1.8 million from the general fund, $38,000 from the court fund and $67,000 from the street fund. Total liabilities for the city was $10,000, giving them a positive fund balance of $1.89 million.
The total revenue generated by Thorsby this year was up $167,000 from the previous year.
Also, during the meeting, the council:
- Approved to put the city’s janitorial services out for bid with a three-year contract.
- Approved Thorsby Police Department to purchase a new cruiser to replace one of the reserve cars that is expiring soon.
- Approved TPD to advertise for a secretary position for their office. TPD will get together a proper job description and plan in the coming weeks before advertising for the position.
