Chilton County landed nine players from its softball teams on the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s All-State Softball Teams that were announced in early June.
After landing three players on the Class 6A all-state teams last season, Chilton County High School was again represented in 2023 with two players on the teams. Freshman Mallie Harrison received her first all-state selection after batting at a .440 clip with 40 hits, 31 RBIs and four home runs. She also performed well as the Tigers’ ace pitcher throwing 113 and one-third innings while posting a 3.02 earned run average which earned her a utility player spot.
Chilton County’s Macey Pierce picked up her second consecutive Class 6A all-state selection being named a designated hitter on the team, and for good reason. The sophomore hit .424 in 2023 with 40 hits, 29 RBIs and a team-high 14 home runs.
Class 2A also had Chilton players on it, two hailing from Thorsby High School. Makinley Turner landed on the all-state first team for the second-straight season as a pitcher. The junior threw 25 complete games in 2023 with an 17-8 record, 283 strikeouts and a 1.94 ERA. She hit .656 with 42 hits, 48 RBIs and nine home runs.
Her catcher, and cousin, freshman Brooklyn Reeser received her first all-state selection on the honorable mention team after batting .523 with 14 RBIs and three home runs in 2023.
Isabella High School’s Morgan Short joined Reeser on the Class 2A honorable mention team as the senior went out in style hitting .443 with a stellar .918 fielding percentage.
The Class 1A all-state teams had a Chilton softball player on all three of its teams, starting with the first team that featured one player from both Verbena and Maplesville high schools. Verbena’s Jaycee Quinn batted .599 with 12 home runs and struck out 302 batters to be named one of the utility players on the first team. Maplesville’s Jaden McGee received one of the first team designated hitter spots batting .445 with 14 home runs.
Maplesville also landed two seniors on the Class 1A all-state teams with Lexi Smith securing a second team pitcher spot and Laci Cook a designated hitter spot on the honorable mention team. Smith struck out over 120 hitters in 2023 while Cook had her best season at the plate batting .440 with six home runs.
