The Chilton County Commission invited the director of the Chilton-Clanton Public Library, Darlene Brock, to attend the May 23 meeting and speak about the services the library offers. Brock spoke about how their visitors are viewed as patrons, not customers. Patrons received services free of charge while customers purchase services. Services such as checking out books and reading materials, hooking up to Wi-Fi hot spots and using computers at the library are free of charge to anyone who visits.

“I have a passion for the library, and I love the library,” Brock said. “I will have been there 39 years in September of this year … The library is very important to our community, our county and our city. It is not a dying entity. We are alive and well, and we are doing a lot of things for our children and adults.”

Brock also asked for the community’s support to help keep the library functioning at a high level. Commission Chairman Jimmie Hardee visited the library earlier this week to see some of the things it has to offer to residents of Chilton County.

“I was going to be there for 15 minutes but I stayed for about two hours,” Hardee said during the meeting. “The library is clean, it smells good and it is very neat and organized.  I really enjoyed myself there and I did not know everything they do down there, and I invite everyone to go there some time and let them show you all the services they have to offer.”

The commission also arranged a special-called meeting on May 30 at 6 p.m. to address a personnel issue and policy review during the May 23 meeting.

Also, during the meeting, the commission:

• Approved hiring Carlos Edwards Turner Jr. as a full-time correction officer and reclassifying Stephen Brock as a lieutenant in the Special Operations Unit.
• Approved the Chilton County Road Department to apply for three grants.
• Approved giving Chilton County E911 access to security cameras excluding the commission chambers.
