The Jemison City Council approved an audit report for the 2021-2022 fiscal year during a meeting on May 15. Howey McNeill, a certified public accountant, gave the audit report presentation to the council.

McNeill said the city had an overall positive audit. The city had a combined asset total (government budget and water/sewer budget) of $8,918,281. Combined liabilities for the city were listed at $8,413,714.

The general fund balance was $1,360,231 with special revenue and capital projects funds having a balance of $124,715 and $34,335, respectively. The council approved accepting the audit unanimously.

A motion for Jemison Mayor Eddie Reed to request an additional $30,000 in federal funds from CB&A Construction and to sign a change request for the Old Town Streetscape project was approved unanimously by the council at the meeting as well. The funds will come with a 20% local match for the Alabama Department of Transportation project.

While beginning the project, crews found two old gasoline tanks underground that were full of liquid. The additional $30,000 in funds will go towards removing the gas tanks, removing the liquid inside them and storing it, and taking out and putting back 30 cubic feet of dirt from around the tanks.

The Old Town Streetscape project will replace sidewalks and hand railings along Main Street from Church Street to Padgett Lane in Jemison. Also, a curbed island, trees, marked parking spots and historic-style lighting will be put in as well. A pavilion in the park adjacent to Main Street is also in the plans.

Jemison entered into an agreement with CDG Engineers & Associates to provide engineering consultation and construction material testing services for the County Road 71 project. The budgeted amount for the project is $18,678, and the project will work towards resurfacing CR 71. The agreement was approved unanimously by the council.

Also during the meeting, the council:

• Approved a donation of 50 football helmets for $6,259.95 and a $250 donation to Jemison Youth Athletics.
