Thorsby High School’s Makinley Turner is this week’s athlete of the week for her performances in the AHSAA Class 2A Area 6 Softball Tournament. Turner threw all 19 innings the Rebels played in the tournament and gave up just four earned runs while striking out 33 batters.
In Thorsby’s opening round game against Fayetteville High School, Turner was walked four times in each of her at bats.
On May 2 in Thorsby’s semifinal against B.B. Comer High School, they pitched to her. Turner responded with a 1-for-2 effort with a two-run home run in the fourth inning that made the score 8-2 Thorsby. The semifinal was Turner’s most dominant game in the circle, giving up just one hit and striking out 16 batters.
Turner left her mark in the championship game against Isabella High School with a 3-for-3 effort with a double and a grand slam. She piled up six RBIs in the title-clinching win and struck out seven Isabella batters.
Turner and Thorsby will now turn their attention to the AHSAA Class 2A Central Regional Tournament at Lagoon Park in Montgomery from May 9-12.
