Thorsby High School clinched home field advantage for the AHSAA Class 2A Area 6 softball tournament after a 10-0 win over B.B. Comer High School on April 18. The Rebels win moved them to 5-1 in the area and will host the area tournament in Thorsby next week.

The Rebels made quick work of Comer in five innings on April 18 and jumped on them early with three runs in the first inning. Leadoff hitter Brooklyn Reeser roped a single into left field and advanced all the way home on a throwing error to put the Rebels up 1-0 after two pitches. Reeser was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Starting pitcher Makinley Turner followed with an RBI triple to plate the inning’s second run. Turner scored after the next at bat by Braelyn Whitfield on another error by Comer.

Whitfield was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

On the mound, Turner had one of her best games in one of Thorsby’s biggest games of the season, throwing five innings of one-hit softball with no runs, no walks and 12 strikeouts. Turner’s only hit she gave up was in the fourth inning on a single with one out. During the next at bat, the runner on first was throwing out at second base, and Turner struck out the batter to end the inning.

Turner continued to contribute at the plate in the fourth inning plating three runs with a double. Turner was 2-for-3 with a double, triple and four RBIs.

Brinley Giambrone also had an RBI double in the inning to bring the score to 7-0.

Summer Powell and Maddie Ray ended the game in the fifth inning for the Rebels. Powell started the fifth with an RBI double, and the ninth run came on Comer’s fourth error of the game.

Ray put the final blow to Comer with an RBI single to make it 10-0 with one out in the fifth inning. Eight of the nine Thorsby hitters recorded a hit in the game, and all nine hitters reached base.
