Some Chilton County area softball teams picked up key area wins during the week of April 4-10 that will be key for positioning in their respective area tournaments coming up in a few weeks.  

 

Chilton County High School 

 

The Tigers began their week picking up two AHSAA Class 6A Area 5 wins. The first a 22-0 thumping of Carver High School on April 4. CCHS scored seven runs in the first inning, 12 in the second and three in third to end the game in three innings. There were 12 hits as a team for CCHS and was led by Mallie Harrison going 4-for-4 with two doubles and seven RBIs. Macey Pierce and Anna Cate Burnett had two hits each. Maecie Driskell, Gracie Brewer and Ishunti Brown each had two RBIs. Harrison earned the win with three innings pitched with no hits, no runs and six strikeouts.  

The Tigers added an 8-7 area win over Stanhope Elmore High School on April 6. Lily Benson, Emma Penley and Harrison each went 2-for-4, and Benson and Harrison each had two doubles. Benson drove in the winning run in the seventh inning with an RBI double that would prove to be the winning run.  

CCHS continued its hot streak into the following day and beat Marbury High School 6-2. The Tigers took a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning and cruised to the win. Chloe Shiers, Gracie Brewer and Pierce had two hits each. Harrison earned her third win of the week going seven innings with six hits, two runs (both unearned) and striking out four hitters.  

The Tigers winning streak was snapped on April 10 with an 8-7 loss to Holtville High School.  

 

Thorsby High School 

 

The Rebels stepped out of area play for a game against Verbena High School on April 6, and a chance to avenge a 7-6 loss on March 7. Thorsby did just that and won 4-0 behind a stellar performance in the circle by Makinley Turner. Turner went the full seven innings and gave up four hits, no runs and no walks and struck out 17 hitters.  

Brinley Giambrone had an RBI double in the third inning to plate the first run, and the Rebels added two more in the fourth inning. Felisha Sanders had an RBI double in the sixth inning to put the finishing touches on the win. Brookly Reeser and Braelyn Whitfield each had two hits with both of Whitfield’s hits going for doubles.  

 

Isabella High School 

 

The Mustangs also stepped outside of area play this week with two games and picked up wins in both games. On April 4, Isabella bested Billingsley High School 20-3 and scored five runs to open the games and compiled 11 hits as a team. Amelia Fjeldstad, Blair Underwood and Auburn Bassett each had two hits, and Underwood had three RBIs. Bassett was the starting pitcher and went just two innings and struck out two hitters.  

Isabella won 9-8 over Maplesville High School on April 10. Holding a 9-5 lead after four innings, Maplesville scored three runs in the fifth inning to cut the lead to one run. Bassett was in the circle again, and after the fifth inning gave up just two hits. Eliza Lovett launched a three-run home run, and Kelsey Cox, Morgan Short, Anna Johnson and Fjeldstad each had two-hit games.  

 

Verbena High School  

 

Verbena’s Jaycee Quinn pitched well in the Red Devil’s 4-0 loss to Thorsby on April 6. Quinn went six innings giving up five hits, four runs (two earned) and striking out 12 hitters. Quinn earned one of the two hits Verbena had in the game, and Jasmin Moates had the other.  

The Red Devils got back on track with a 16-0 win over Autaugaville High School on April 10 that earned them an AHSAA Class 1A Area 6 win. Quinn led the way again going 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Grace Vazquez contributed three RBIs. 

 

Billingsley High School 

 

After their 20-3 loss to Isabella, the Bears bounced back with a 16-0 win over Keith High School on April 6. Caydin Hornady led the way going 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Ada Willis, Amber Johnson, Madison Chandler and Sadie Primm each had two RBIs, and Yasmine Averhart has a home run.  

Billingsley followed that up the next day with a 10-9 win over Vincent High School. Vincent scored four runs in the first inning, but the Bears took the lead with six runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Bears fought back and scored the winning run on a Primm RBI double to go up 10-8 in the sixth inning and to the eventual win.  

 

Maplesville High School 

 

The Red Devils split their two games this week starting with a 9-5 win over Jemison High School on April 4. Mollie Kayte Smith led the way going 2-for-4 with four RBIs, and Hayden Carter had a triple and an RBI.  

Maplesville dropped its second game to Isabella 9-8 on April 10. Kamylia Talley, Laci Cook, Allie Hand and Smith accounted for eight of the 10 Maplesville hits. Cook had three RBIs and a home run to lead the group.  

 

Jemison High School 

 

The Panthers’ posted nine hits in their 9-5 defeat to Maplesville on April 4. Kinsley Martin went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Braelyn Bradford also went 2-for-3 with a double and two doubles.  

Jemison’s other game for the week was an 8-6 loss to Shelby County High School on April 6.
