With no area tournaments for baseball, Chilton County area teams need to get every possible area win they can to secure a spot in the AHSAA state baseball playoffs. 

 

Chilton County High School 

 

The Tigers got their week started with an extra innings win over Shelby County High School 6-4 on April 4. Shelby County led 2-0 after the first inning, but CCHS posted three runs in the sixth inning behind a Cannon Miler two-RBI double and an Aiden Bee RBI single to go up 3-2. Miller was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Bee had two RBIs.  

Shelby County tied the game in the seventh to send it to extra innings, and the Tigers scored three runs to open extras behind a Miller RBI double and a Parker Willis RBI single to go up 6-3 and secure the win.  

Shelby County traveled to Chilton County on April 6 for the team’s second game of the week on April 6, and the Tigers cruised to an 8-2 win. CCHS scored six runs in the first inning to break the game wide open. J.T. Terrell, Coy Crumpton, Miller and Bee all had RBIs.   

The Tigers suffered their first loss of the week on April 7 falling to Bibb County High School 6-5. CCHS took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Bibb County tied the game in the third inning and again later to send it to extra innings. Bibb County scored in the top of the eighth inning to secure the win. Tre Fulmer was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Miller was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk.  

CCHS lost its first of two AHSAA Class 6A Area 5 games of the season to Helena High School 6-1 on April 10. Bee had an RBI single to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Helena scored the game’s next six runs and held CCHS scoreless the rest of the game. Bee was 2-for-3 with an RBI. The two teams next area game will be on April 12 at 6:30 p.m. 

 

Thorsby High School 

 

The Rebels had a crucial AHSAA Class 2A Area 6 doubleheader with Isabella High School on April 4 that saw Thorsby sweep both games from the Mustangs. In game one, Remington Taylor led the way at the going 2-for-5 with a home run, and Aiden Seeley was 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs. Seeley also pitched the game for Thorsby going six innings with two hits, no runs, one walk and 12 strikeouts to secure the 13-5 win.  

In game two, Thorsby won 11-4 behind Taylor’s 2-for-3 effort at the plate and five innings of pitching on the mound. Taylor gave up five hits, four runs (one earned) and struck out nine hitters. J.T. Green, Tyler Lockhart and Malachi Allgood each had two RBIs in the game.  

The Rebels April 6 matchup with Shelby County was rained out.  

 

Isabella High School  

 

In the Mustangs two losses to Thorsby on April 4, Colton Conway shined the brightest in game one going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Conway also led the way in game two going 2-for-4 with an RBI. 

Isabella’s April 8 game with B.B. Comer High School was rained out, which left a doubleheader with Central of Coosa County High School on April 10 to end their week. The Mustangs won both AHSAA Class 2A Area games, starting with a 19-3 win in game one. Zac Chapman was 3-for-3 and a home run short of the cycle and had four RBIs. Tyler Mims was 2-for-3, and Eli Boatwright threw three innings of three-hit baseball and gave up just three runs and struck out five hitters.  

In game two, Isabella won 16-2 and was led by Aiden Gray on the mound going three innings with seven strikeouts.  

 

Billingsley High School 

The Bears suffered just their second loss of the season on April 4 falling to Prattville Christian Academy 3-1. Kyle Boice’s RBI double was the lone RBI in the game for Billingsley, and the Bears pitching kept PCA quiet aside from a three-run fourth inning that proved to be the difference. 

Billingsley bounced back in a big way on April 7 thumping Verbena 15-0 to pick up an AHSAA Class 1A Area 6 win. The Bears 1-4 hitters had 11 of their 15 hits including Shane Shirah going 4-for-4, Boice 3-for-4 and Landon Jones 2-for-4 with a home run.  

Mason Truesdale threw five innings and gave up no runs and struck out seven Verbena hitters.  

 

 

Jemison High School 

 

The Panthers week featured three games against Holtville High School, and the Panthers went 0-3 against the Class 5A state runner ups from a season ago. On April 4, Jemison lost 14-4 after trailing just 3-2 after the fourth inning. Holtville outscored them 11-2 the next two innings. Lane Pate was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Trenton Gaines was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. 

On April 6 in a doubleheader at home, Jemison dropped game one 12-0 and then game two 16-4. Tucker Bean, Daniel Flores and Cooper Smitherman all collected singles in game two.  

Jemison did pick up a win on April 5 on the road at Maplesville High School 7-2 behind Bean’s complete game on the mound. He gave up just four hits and two unearned runs while fanning 10 Maplesville hitters.  

 

Verbena High School  

 

Verbena’s week of action started off strong on April 4 taking down Notasulga High School 14-3. Jarod Quinn was 2-for-4 with a double, and Jacob Morris went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Lance Edwards added an RBI triple.  

The Red Devils lost their next two games of the week, 11-0 to Fayetteville High School on April 6 and 15-0 to Billingsley on April 7. Edwards led the way for Verbena against Billingsley going 2-for-3. 

 

Maplesville High School  

 

Maplesville’s only game of the week was the 7-2 loss to Jemison on April 5. Aidan Abbott, Jake Carlee, Trace Payne and Cody Jones all collected hits in the game, and Jones’ hit went for a double. Payne collected two RBIs in the game as well.
