Thorsby High School kept its AHSAA Class 2A Area 6 baseball record unblemished taking both games of a doubleheader with Isabella High School on April 4. The Rebels moved to 4-0 in the area, and the Mustangs fell to 0-4 in the area.
In game one, Thorsby led 3-0 after two innings behind a Remington Taylor lead-off home run and an RBI double in the second inning. Taylor was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
The score remained 3-0 until the top of the sixth inning, and Isabella got the first two batters out and was one out away from ending the inning. However, a dropped third strike gave the Thorsby hitter first base to extend the inning. The Rebels capitalized and scored four runs after the error behind home plate to push their advantage to 7-0.
On the mound, Thorsby’s Aiden Seeley stifled the Isabella offense, throwing six innings of two-hit baseball with no runs, one walk and striking out 12 hitters. Seeley did his job at the plate as well leading the way with a 4-for-5 effort with two doubles and three RBIs. Payton Cole and Logan Ellison each had two RBIs.
Thorsby added six more runs in the seventh inning to make it 13-0, but Isabella found its own two-out rally in the last half inning of the game to bring the final score to 13-5.
Colton Conway was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Isabella. Conway also started on the mound for the Mustangs and went 5.2 innings giving up eight hits, three runs (two earned) and struck out five Thorsby hitters.
In game two, Thorsby carried over their momentum from game one into an 11-4 win. The Rebels scored in four of the six innings they hit in, and scored four runs in the first inning behind a Tyler Lockhart triple.
Taylor had another productive game at the plate going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks. Taylor also pitched for the Rebels going six innings and surrendering five hits, four runs (one earned) and struck out nine hitters.
Isabella did cut the lead down to 6-4 in the top of the fifth inning after a Conway single, but could not get any closer. Thorsby scored five runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning that was punctuated by a Malachi Allgood two-RBI double. Allgood, Lockhart, J.T. Green and Manuel Castillo each had two RBIs in game two.
Conway led the way for Isabella in game two going 2-for-4, and Garrett Traywick got a hit in his only plate appearance and recorded an RBI and a run scored.
Thorsby hosts Shelby County High School on April 6 in their next matchup at 5 p.m. Isabella hosts B.B. Comer High School on April 8 at 1:30 p.m.
