The Isabella High School Junior Beta Club had another successful food and supply drive for the Humane Society of Chilton County this year.

Club president Jayden Thomas said the group collected donations of cat and dog food as well as other supplies that the animal shelter needed.

Vice president Stella Traywick said the group also raised awareness for the adoptable animals at the shelter through schoolwide announcements describing a different animal each day. Club sponsor Tammy Pairrett said this was her favorite part of the drive, and the announcements led to at least one dog getting adopted.

Announcements were also made throughout the month of February giving updates on how many bags of donations had been collected. Pairrett said participation extended beyond the school with members of the community also contributing.

“It felt good knowing we could help the dogs out,” Traywick said.

Club secretary Olivia Day said a total of 126 bags of supplies were collected.

“It felt good that we met our goal of 100 and to feed the dogs and cats,” Thomas said.

“It felt good because you knew … you helped animals in need,” Charlotte Lovett, club treasurer, said.

Students are eligible for the Junior Beta Club in seventh and eighth grades, if they have a 3.0 GPA in core subjects and good behavior. Members are decided by the school faculty.
