Going from stylist to owner at Elite Salon has been a dream come true for Chelsea Young.

“I have always wanted to own my own salon ever since I started doing hair,” Young said.

Young became the new owner of Elite in December 2022, after being a stylist at the salon for four years.

During her time at the salon, Young has developed a loyal customer base. Some of her customers have been coming to her since she started.

She said she wants to see the salon continue to grow and improve to provide the best experience possible for customers.

“I just want everyone to feel comfortable when they come in here and feel appreciated,” Young said.

Adding more stylists and making some aesthetic changes are plans she has for the company.

“I just want the business to grow and be very successful,” Young said.

In addition to the multiple hair stylists, Elite also offers waxing, eyelash extensions and spray tans.

The salon has been in Clanton for about 10 years, and Young is the third owner.

Young began her career about seven years ago after completing her cosmetology training at LeCroy Career Technical Center.

It was her aunt that initially piqued her interest in the industry. Young had enjoyed spending time at her aunt’s salon, and this led to her wanting to become a stylist herself.

What she enjoys most about the industry is “making my clients feel beautiful and feel better about themselves and being able to connect” with them. She said listening to clients to understand what they want is important. Stylists develop a sense for what will work well with a client’s hair type and what will not, Young said.
