There were no comments made in opposition to recent rezoning requests during the Clanton City Council’s public hearings on Feb. 27.

The first request, from Maria Pedraza and Mateo Moises, is to change the zoning of 1901 Seventh Street North from R-3 Multi-Family Residential District to B-3 Neighborhood Business District.

The second request is from Jeffrey Howell to rezone some property on U.S. Highway 31 South from R-1 Single Family Residential District to B-2 General Business District.

No one spoke in favor of the requests during the hearings either.

A vote on the rezoning requests is expected at a future meeting.

Also, during the meeting, Scott Zuelzke asked the council to allow the Clanton Kiwanis Club to use Goose Pond Park for the annual Spring Carnival April 18 to April 22. Last year, the club raised approximately $37,000 from the Spring Carnival and the Chilton County Fair in the fall, Zuelzke said.

“All of that money that we raise goes back into supporting local programs here, children’s charities and other initiatives,” he said.

The council also approved declaring miscellaneous items as surplus to get rid of them.
