Clanton set to upgrade finance software

The Clanton City Council is set to consider technology upgrades that will help the finance, bookkeeping and utilities departments.
The council will consider a contract with Tyler Technologies Inc at its voting session on Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. During a Feb. 9 work session, Mayor Jeff Mims said this is something he has wanted to see upgraded since he first became mayor.
Current software is about to become outdated and creates issues between different departments.
“The reporting is so bad, and the software is just so old,” operations manager Lisa Taylor said.
The software would also be used for handling permits.
Taylor said she looked at four additional companies before recommending Tyler Technologies.
“What I think on the utility side that customers will like is that they can go on (the website portal), and they can actually see their bill, they can see their account,” Taylor said.
This will allow those wanting to pay with a credit card to see their account number without having to call the department.
The software will also have payments update directly into the general ledger.
“I think there is going to be a lot more efficiency,” Taylor said.
After the software is approved and purchased, the transition could take up to a year.
Also during the meeting, the council will vote on:
- Declaring miscellaneous items, including cellphones, vehicles, an old bulldozer, etc. as surplus in order to dispose of them.
- Renewing the agreement with the company that inspects bridges for the city.
- A contract with Carmichael Engineering LLC for professional services related to property it owns on Seventh Street near Walmart.
- Mims said the contract would be for site work and other technical services.
